The trains stop before the news does.

After any noticeable earthquake the railways pause for track inspection. SHINDO reads the operators' own status feeds, translates the notices and tells you before you walk into a closed station.

Fifty-nine JR East lines. Thirteen subway lines. One screen.

JR East publishes its Kanto-area line status on its own site; Tokyo Metro and Toei publish theirs through the Public Transportation Open Data Center. SHINDO reads both, shows them on one screen with the operator's wording in Japanese and a translation, and refreshes every few minutes.

Transit alerts

Pick your lines. Get a push when they stop.

Choose the lines you commute on and SHINDO pushes a notification when one of them is suspended or delayed — and again when service resumes. Nothing about lines you never ride.

With the earthquake

Shaking first, then the trains.

On the earthquake detail screen the transit panel shows which lines paused for inspection after that event, so a shindo 4 in Chiba and a stopped Sobu Line make sense together.

Where the status comes from

01

JR East

Read from JR East's public train-information pages for the Kanto area. SHINDO is not affiliated with or endorsed by East Japan Railway Company.

02

Tokyo Metro and Toei

From the Public Transportation Open Data Center (ODPT) feeds the operators publish.

03

Translated

Each notice is shown in the operator's Japanese and in English or Spanish.

04

Refreshed

Every few minutes, and immediately after an earthquake report.

Good to know

The Kanto area for JR East and the Tokyo subway network today. Shinkansen and other regions are planned once we have a reliable source for each.

It is read from the operators' own publications. Delays in their updates are passed through; always check the station boards before boarding.

An early version counted '本日の運転は終了しました' (service ended for the day) as a disruption. Fixed in October 2026 — last trains are now shown as such.
