You do not have to unlock anything. During an early warning, SHINDO's Live Activity shows the forecast intensity for your area and the seconds until shaking — on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
A warning gives you between a few seconds and about a minute. The Live Activity is designed to be read in one glance from across a desk: large intensity, a shrinking bar, the arrival time JMA estimated.
On iPhone 14 Pro and later the warning takes the Dynamic Island: intensity on one side, countdown on the other. Tap it to open the full alert with the map and the AI explanation.
When the estimated arrival passes, the Live Activity switches to the observed intensity JMA reports. If JMA cancels the warning, the Activity ends and says so, so you are never left watching a countdown for an earthquake that was withdrawn.
