Children's privacy

Safety for everyone. Accounts for 13 and up.

Earthquake warnings should reach every family member. Personal data, accounts and public posting are another matter, and we treat them carefully.

Effective: October 17, 2026

1. Who SHINDO is for

SHINDO is a general-audience safety app. It is not designed for or directed to children under 13, and we do not market it to children. We set the App Store age rating to reflect that the app contains user-generated content (Community).

2. Using SHINDO without an account

Alerts work without an account. In that case the app still registers a push token, a device identifier and an approximate area so that warnings can be delivered. This information is used only to deliver alerts — never for advertising, profiling or analytics about the person — and it is deleted when the app is removed or the account is deleted.

3. Accounts and Community: 13 and older

4. If we learn a child under 13 gave us personal information

We delete the account, its Community posts and any personal information associated with it, and we do not use it for any purpose. We do this without requiring the parent to prove anything beyond reasonable verification that the request concerns the account in question.

5. What we never do with any user's data

No targeted advertising, no sale of data, no sharing with data brokers, no AI training on user data, no public display of exact location.

6. Parents and guardians

To review or delete a child's information, or to ask a question, write to privacy@shindoalert.com with the subject "Child's data". We respond within 5 business days. You can also delete an account in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account.

7. Laws we follow

The U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and its 2025 amendments, Article 8 of the EU and UK GDPR, the UK Age Appropriate Design Code where applicable, Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information and the Personal Information Protection Commission's guidance on minors, and Apple's App Review Guidelines on kids and user-generated content.
